    Hey everyone.

Im about ot buy some RAM and i have a choice between PC2 5300 with CL 5 and PC2 6400 with CL 6. I know the CL 5 will have less of a latency period but i didnt know how the 5300 will affect it as opposed to the 6400. Also, the CL 5 is about $15 less. Can anyone help me out?

what notebook do you have? if santa rosa, to my knowledge you need to use 667mhz... because the chipset does not support 800mhz memory.

when it comes to purchasing RAM, i always buy the fastest i can afford. it can always be downclocked to meet specific requirements but will also be useful in the future when you're looking to use the faster RAM speeds.

like for instance, the santa rosa may not recognize the full 800mhz but it will adjust it to run at 667mhz, but you will always be able to use the faster speed later on if you choose to.

better to have faster RAM and not need it then to need it and not have it.

    good luck.

If the 6400 when it downclocks to 667Mhz CL goes to 5 which it might then it would be fine, if the CL stays at 6 it will be about 20% slower than PC5300 CL5. I would buy the PC5300 it is cheaper and the correct speed.
