to a higher resolution can I just swap out the LCDs, or do I need to change the inverter too?

I have a 17" Alienware m7700 and I want to change the screen from 1440x900 to 1920x1200. Can I just swap out LCDs or is there more to it?

    Thanks!

Yes you can, you can very easily go to the 17" 1920x1200 panel.
I have a M7700A, basically like yours. The 17" 1920x1200 screen I have is this one:

The same inverter can be used on all resolution panels for the D900T/D900K
