    Welcome to notebook review

Can you tell us what model optical drive you have?
This number can be found on the sticker on the top of the optical drive.

What you need to do is figure out what type of discs your system can read.
To do this, you can either google the model number, or run NERO Infotools.
If you download a trial of Nero, it should have infotools. Run infotools, and that will tell you exactly what the capabilities of your optical drive are.
It may be that your optical drive cannot read certain types of dvd's Like + discs, or - discs.

If the drive reads the disc sometimes, and not other times, well it could be a faulty drive or a dirty drive. What I mean by dirty is the lens. Open the optical drive, and use a q-tip with a little rubbing alcohol to clean the lens of the drive. Press very gently, and use a swirling motion to clean the lens. Continue to clean until the lens looks clean.
Than try the disc again and hopefully it works

Since last posted the old owner bought me a new dvd cd drive and it will not even read it, says IDE #1 ERROR... So I was reading more about this and some have posted to either connect 45 n 47 with foil paper and other said to do something with the bios. Something about resetting to 5 times again.
    So what to do...
