My Dell Inspiron 9100 does not work if unplug the ac adapter. It will turn off, or if it is off it will not turn on unless plugged in. Today I upgraded it from 512mb (two 256mb) to 1GB (two 512mb), so I am wondering if for some reason thats the problem. I put in the ram correctly, if I hadn't, the computer would not have turned on(says the manual). Can anybody help me?

Is it possible that the battery could be shot and can't hold a charge?

Before I changed the ram, the battery could last a little under 1hour 30minutes. I don't think it could have changed so much so rapidly. Could it?

Well, take out the new stick of RAM and see if it works. If it does, then you can at least isolate the problem to putting in the new stick of RAM... though at that point I've no idea why a new stick of RAM would cause such a problem...

Dumb advice but pull the battery out and put back in. It is not a Ram issue. Good luck.

I installed the program Battery Eater and it says my current voltage is 11.3V, and that the designed voltage is 10.6V. Could this be the problem? If it is, how do I fix it?

What happens if you boot with the AC adapter in, and then unplug it after everything is up and running? If it turns off, then its a battery issue.
