Well, recently I ordered a new laptop with Vista Premium and a 160GB 5400Rpm Hybrid HDD (256MB). Apparantly these two are made for each other. I have seen pros and cons and it seemed to me, specifically, that there were more cons. The HDD doesn't have to spin up as often, faster boot times and less power consumption. Only thing I'm wondering is about gaming; it does not seem to me as if the hybrid HDD 5400rpm would make a difference in performance from another regular 5400rpm HDD, or am I wrong? (The hybrid has 256MB flash, and considering other things are going to be on it the game assets will be too much for it so if you are gaming it runs like a regular HDD, technically)

What are the cons (other than price) of hybrid drives? I can see that some applications won't take advantage of hybrid drive technology, but I didn't think it would make anything run worse?

The hybrid drive will safe you some battery life under light use because the disk can stay off longer and just use the flash. 256MB is too small to see a speed increase. I dont think there is a downside either, just costs more.
