I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 n Series Laptop having 6 lithium cell battery. My Laptop is on almost for 18 hours and the battery back is of 2 hours.

How should I use the battery?

Should I keep the laptop on AC power through out my usage or shall I recharge the battery after every 2 hours when it gets discharged?

if you can, always use the laptop on AC for such long periods. be sure to remove the battery, as heat is known to damage batteries.

There is a lovely battery guide here on NBR. It explains everything.

The solution provided by our fellow poster above is okay, BUT, in case of a power outage, the laptop will switch off and data might end up corrupted.

I would keep the battery in, but every 2 weeks or so, do a power cycle. WHich means unplugging, letting the battery run to ~Empty, then recharge up to full. So the battery will not deteriorate.

I bought an APC Back-UPS and removed my laptop battery. Works like a charm!
