Your laptop should have insulation on the inside of the chassis. My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A70, is a model known for "random" shutdowns, freezes, lock-ups, etc, but on the Toshiba website they offered to fix this problem by adding a insulating material on the inside of the chassis. You shouldn't have to worry about static, but then again you can always ground yourself before touching it.

If it's just installing a hard drive, you can just wash your hands and touch a metal surface before working. You shouldn't need anything fancy.

    Sucess.

Question: When I look at the HD's pin, there were 4 pins that are not connected, what are these pins?

Those are jumpers, you don't have to worry about them.

Genrally, a fool-proof way to be static free is to ground yourself via a n anti-static wrist strap like the one Belkin offers. It's about $6. I got one for my desktop since I dig inside often. :)

Too bad I already installed it w/o the wrist band. And it worked perfectly, and faster. :D
