im looking in to getting the new HItachi 7k500 500gb hard drive for the laptop in my sig along with an upgrade to windows 7 and 4gb of ram.

the problem is that i live in the uk and i cannot find and good places to buy it as its not sold in many places.

can anybody recommend a good place to buy it.

oh and i also saw the WD scorpio black 320gb which i can get much easier although it does not have as high a capacity. howdoes its speed compare to the hitachi.

well i have the same dilema... i live in the UK too... the scropio Black should be just as fast according to some ppl... so it's a good replacement... we might have to wait longer for 7K500 to be found easily..

I'm living in asia right now, and I'm in the same position. You'd think they'd have lots of high end stuff here... but they don't.

I used eBay to get both of mine, I believe they were $99 each, plus shipping.

im not to keen on buying electricals on ebay because it can often be harder to send them back if they go wrong. i may look in to the WD black then cos it seems to me a good price and 70gb extra space may be enough for me.

is there going to be a WD black 500gb anytime soon as it might be a good option although i would probably have the same kind of problem getting one

You're not wrong. And the parts that we do get are ridiculously expensive.
