I booted up my 7811fx and my keyboard didn't work. A coouple of the letters work and a couple give me different keys like the P gives me a 9 but the majority of the keys do nothing at all. I checked to make sure it was set up to english and I tried reinstalling the drivers but it didn't help. If I plug a keyboard into the laptop it works fine. Does that mean it is a hardware problem?

Thanks in advance for any replys.

Did you spill liquid on the keyboard by chance?

If not, first suspect is drivers. Go to device management and reinstall the drivers.

If not might be time for a new keyboard, which they aren't terribly expensive ~45-60 for an OEM keyboard or just living with a USB keyboard if you don't want to pay for another laptop keyboard.

Just to be sure, if it isin't a full sized keyboard, you sure that you not by accident have turned on your num-lock right? This can cause the same problem you raported. Usualy, you need to press FN+(On my ThinkPad it is NMLK with blue color).

    Keep us updated!

You might need a new keyboard. Acer/Gateway/eMachines stuff are pretty cheap.
