I've just done my first actual hardware upgrade. I bought some more RAM for my computer, and I'm having a bit of trouble so I was wondering if I could get some help

I have a 3 1/2 year old Sony VAIO K23. It comes with a factory 512 MB of RAM. I bought two sticks of Kingston 512 MB RAM so that I could expand the system to its maximum of 1 GB.

Now, I've googled this in the past and read that OTHER people had problems installing RAM on this particular notebook, I'm gonna go google it again and see if I can find some more information but I thought I'd make this topic on the off chance that someone might be able to help me.

The specifications I've read for my notebook have all indicated that the system comes with PC2100 RAM (which is what I bought from Kingston) however the Infineon RAM I pulled out of the system is very clearly marked as being PC2700.

My system is reporting that I have 480 MB installed, which seems about right considering the 32 MB that my ATI IGP is taking. My system reported 480 MB with one Kingston chip and one Infineon chip installed and its reporting 480 MB with both Kingston chips installed. At the moment I'm using the machine with both of my new chips installed so evidently they DO work.

Is this possibly a BIOS issue?
