I've asked a local plumber to provide a piece of copper 3cm X 3cm X 1,5mm, but he only has pieces of 0.7mm thick. Can I use 2 pieces of 0,7 instead of 1 piece of 1,5? Mabye some extra heatsink compound between the 2?

Oh, and the soldering paste, where can I find that? Or some acid? The local drugstore maybe?

Maybe you've got any more tips on how not to screw up things...?[)]
    Thanks...

I actually sandwiched two plates, so you should be fine with that. You can find the compound at newegg.com or something, look for arctic silver. Soldering paste is only necessary if the copper is tarnished, (green) so you usually don't need it. I didnt use acid, i just scraped off the thermal pad that was there, and it worked fine.

    Great, thanks for the help!!
But should I glue the 2 plates together, or put some arctic silver between them, or just nothing?

Thanks again, you're really helping me [^]

put arctic silver between them, then glue, and quickly press them together as flat as possible.

Hmmm . . . I thought the MR9600 mod was for the i8500. The MR9600 should work fine in a i8600. Are you experiencing high gpu temps?

You do not need to do this for all cards. As far as I know the MR9600 is the only one that gets that hot.

    Andrew,

I've read in the Dell forum (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_upgrade&message.id=39223) that the inspiron 8600 users need to flash their BIOS.

Do I need to do that also with my 8500? And if yes, to which version? A06 is the latest i think...

Ok, i did it. I've had some complications, and my bloodpressure hit the ceiling, but it's working...

    I went from 1113 3d marks 03 to 2783 marks. I hope that's the number i shoud expect...

Also, I've tested everything a bit, and I haven't reached 70°C yet... So that's also good...

Thanks again, Andrew, you're doing a great job on this forum!

That's right about where my score is. Your card appears to be cooler than mine as well. Good job.
