Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a HP Pavilion tx1305us notebook. Everything works fine (except the fact that I hate Vista!)

Anyhow, I bought a IEEE1394a Express Card to add firewire to it. Windows picks up the card perfectly & I know it works b/c I streamed video to my notebook w/ my video camera via Firewire.

Well, I'm a photographer I need a fast way to download my photos to my laptop when I'm on assignment. The USB 2.0 CF card readers are WAY to slow. So I bought the SanDisk Extreme Firewire Reader but when I plug it into my Express Card via Firewire, my computer wont pick it up!

It detects the Express Card, but will not see my card reader not even if I put a card in it.

This is the card reader I'm trying to use:

    http://www.sandisk.com/Products/ProductInfo.aspx?ID=2006

and this is the express card I'm using:

    http://www.synchrotech.com/products-expc/expresscard34-firewire-400_01.html

can anyone help me please? I updated windows to the latest version, the card reader does not bring any software. The express card was plug & play. I tried updating the driver but windows says it already had the latest driver.

    Thank you in advance,
    -Alexis

There are various drivers at the Sandisk download site, but I don't see anything specific for the Extreme firewire reader.

If you can work out what chip is inside the Firewire adaptor then you can also look on the chip manufacturer's site for the latest driver.

    thanks John...

How do I find out the chip set? All it says in the back of the express card is:

    Model No. 1002E
    FCC D33086

and on the front all it says is: IEEE1394a Express Card

Do you think it's a driver problem?? I'm thinking of formatting my Laptop & putting windows XP... would you think that might help at all?

You might be able to see the chipset of the Firewire card by looking in Device Manager. You can also try using software such as SiSoftware Sandra or Everest.
