I'm looking at getting a notebook for christmas, but different store's are telling me different thing's. I dont know if i should go AMD x2 or Intel Core 2 Duo, Im a gamer, i play some game's, ill mostly use it for music, surfing ALOT and MSN.
I basically just want the CPU to be fast for all my need's, without bottlenecks. AMD X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo?

Given a choice, I would go for the Core 2 Duo processor because it is noticeably faster than the Turion. Either CPU will be fine for your needs though.

Chaz, do you have any benchmarks to hand comparing Core Duo/Core 2 Duo and X2?
-
Definitely Core 2, I still can't believe AMD isn't lowering the price on their X2 chips ...

Does the procsessing power matter? most stores over here the Cpu's are 1.6 or 1.8Ghz, cant find any around 2.0Ghz. Will i notice major slow downs with any of those cpu's with the 1.6 or 1.8Ghz?

Im an AMD fanboy, but I'm also a reasonable person. The performance:cost ratio works in the core 2 duo's advantage.
I would get that one. -
If you want the cheapest solution you buy it online at the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). So if you're looking at a Toshiba go to Toshiba's site, HP go to HP's site, etc.
Other than that just have some kind of a feel for the price the retailer (Circuit City or ...shudder... Best Buy) should offer you. It'll be a little more expensive for a little less computer, but you get instant satisfaction. And 1.83Ghz is fine, 1.6Ghz may result in slight performance drop (assuming you're talking about Intel's chips here). -
Also, read the first post of this thread on laptop Graphics Processor Units (GPU's) for gaming. I know it's a lot of info so just zone out until you scroll down to the middle of the first post and see some examples for yourself.
fauz: Reasonable AMD fanboy? Didn't know you guys existed -
1st..I'm kicking myself because I thought the x1400 was pretty much the same if not better than the x700.
2nd....
Ever since I started building systems, I would always use AMDs since I got more for my money. Oh, and did I mention intel graphics? -
Nothing wrong with that...on desktops. My "Mobile" Athlon XP used to heat up old laptop to unsafe temperatures though. Nearly burnt off my fingerprints to type sometimes. Don't recommend that, unless you want to go on a crime spree without gloves.
