    Hi,

I'm new here, and have spent a day searching the threads but can't find the exact answer I need. I'm ready to buy the HP HDX16t from the HP website, and I have customization questions. I'd like to buy today as I have a good deal, and don't know if it will last long.

I'm not a gamer at all. I work with photographs a lot - editing them and uploading them to my photo website. I work a little in video, but short video stuff from my digital camera. Other than that, I'll be using the laptop for general internet use, Microsoft Office software, and DVD/TV viewing.

I'm trying to decide which options to purchase:

    Processor:
It comes with T6600 (2.2 GHz)
I have options to upgrade to:
    P7450 (2.13 GHz) +$50
    P8700 (2.53 GHz) +$200
    T9550 (2.66 GHz) +$350
    T9800 (2.93 GHz) +$600

I have read it's not going to make much of a noticeable performance difference to go from T6600 to P7450, and I likely won't do that. My question is if I should upgrade to P8700 for +$200. Would it be worth it? I'm worried my Processor will become quickly outdated if I go with the slowest option. Would upgrading make a noticeable difference, or prevent my laptop from becoming outdated less quickly?

    Battery
Should I choose the 6 cell that comes with it, the 12 cell for +$49, or one 6 cell and one 12 cell for +$149? I have read the 12 cell raises the laptop up about an inch and is large looking, which I'm not crazy about. I don't need to use the laptop for super extended time periods on battery power. If I could get 2 hours of battery life that would be acceptable.

    Display
The 16.0" HD BrightView Infinity Display is included (1366x768).
    Options:
Upgrade for +$25 to HD Ultra BrightView Infinity (1366x768)
Upgrade for +$175 to HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity (1920x1080p)

Is the upgrade for +$25 worth it for the Ultra BrightView? After research, I can't figure out what the difference would be. I don't think I really need 1080p on my laptop - would that be the main reason to upgrade to the +$175 option?

My technical knowledge is pretty limited, FYI. Thanks SO much for your feedback!

If I were you, I'd invest money in a better screen. 1366x768 is crap on 16". t6600 will serve you well for now, i'm sure, and you can always upgrade it later if you need.

Squeak for yourself - 1366x768 works great for me. If you can get to a store and see a display for yourself before buying, do so.

If you do CAD, photoshop or media production, you may want to consider the higher resolution panel.
I can get these tasks done on my 1280x800 display, but it is really annoying to continually scroll everywhere. Getting a higher resolution panel will increase efficiency across the boards.

If you are just surfing the internet and typing, than go for the lower resolution screen, since you may not need the higher resolution

Thanks so much for all of your input. Since I work a lot with photos, I'm going to upgrade to the 1080p screen. I'll go with T6600 (2.2 GHz) and the 6 Cell battery. That's great to know I can upgrade the GHz later - problem solved.
    Thanks!
