Can you be more elaborate on what instances that issue occurs? Were you doing something then it freezes or during startup?

There can be many reasons why it happens especially with Vista. If its stock then it is possible that there are tons of bloatwares running in the background. How much memory you have installed? It could be that it is swapping file with the hard drive if you have 1gb of RAM installed. For Vista i would suggest at least 2gb of RAM for a smoother operation.

Just prior to the freezes starting, did you make any changes to your machine? New hardware or software? Registry changes? Software upgrades? Have you run malware scans?

A preliminary plan may be to repair using the Vista Repair CD floating around, maybe run memtest to check ram, and then hiren's bootcd. GL

I wouldn't go playing around in your BIOS because of this issue. I can't imagine anything there being the cause.

Do you have an immense amount of processes running? Check to see if some are spiking your processing power.

If you did nothing then a hardware issue! Sorry. I guess try a reinstall reformat for kicks! Regardless if I just bought a system and out of the box I would not even think fixing or making things work is my job. Even if I could. When I buy new it should work!
