Ok...need a bit of help here.

My hard drive crashed in my HP DV6000 Laptop. I went to NewEgg.com and bought this drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148338

When I went to put it into my laptop I found it it didn't fit. I could have swore I chose the right one...but I guess I was wrong.

This is the harddrive that I pulled out (not my picture but the but the same type of pins):

This is the one I bought and hoped replaced it with (instead of pins they are flat...like a Gameboy/Gameboy Advance game):

What am I doing wrong here? This is the first time I've ventured into replacing a laptop hard drive so I must be doing something wrong.

the drive will still work, the sata interface only uses one face of those flat metal pieces, so the new drive will work in your laptop.
The older generaton drives had pins exposed on both sides, but it really did not matter, the newer generation ones have the pins on the one side where it counts, so do not worry about compatibility. The new drive will work in your system.

How do I make it work?

It won't physically plug into the port o nmy laptop (my old hard drive has thin metal pins that went right into it, this one does not)

Or is there an adaptor on the old HDD that needs to be moved over?

Boy do I feel stupid.

I just got it out of my car, read your post, and pulled off the little adapter. It now looks the same (well, I don't have the new one with me but very similar).

    Wow. Just wow, lol.

    Thanks you guys, lol.
