I have a 6 year old Toshiba Laptop (X205-S9359) that I am having issues with. It started about a month ago when using it, the screen would blink a few time then it would go black. The laptop would still be on but the screen would be black. Holding down the power button and rebooting I would still have a black screen. I then connect to an external monitor and I was able to see the screen. Then windows would ask to repair and I would say yes. During this screen the screen would sometimes have trash on it like the video card driver had issues. After the repairs it would work fine for a few days. Then it started happening more often. Some times insted of the screen blinking it would get trash on it before it would go black. I tried removing the video card driver and installing a newer one but I had the same result. Finally I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled windows. After that everything worked as normal for about 2 weeks. I started having the same issue today and now it happens about every 5 min. This is my wifes pc and she did say it gave an error. The only thing she could remember it saying was "wlan". I dont think it would be the wireless card causing this.

At first I thought the screen may be going bad but since I get the same result when connected to an external monitor I have ruled that out. Could this be my HDD going bad? GPU going bad? Seems like if it was the GPU then after reinstalling windows I would have had the same issue. I played borderlands on it this past weekend for about 5 hrs straight with no issues. Attached is a screen shot of the external monitor during windows repair. Thanks for any help.

8700M GT? Yeah, it's probably video card issues...

As Commander_Wolf stated above, it's got an 8700M GT, and it has been known to die due to the Nvidia defective bump material. I'd consider getting a new laptop, baking the card might fix it short term, long term you need a new GPU, preferably non Nvidia.
