Can you describe what you set up in the BIOS?

Does the harddrive appear in the Bios?
and/or is the harddrive recognized by Windows?
If the drive is not recognized either way, you may need to set a jumper on the harddrive. The jumper is usually a small clip which fits over 2 pins on the end of the harddrive. COnfigure the jumper to run in master, or cable select mode. Their should be a small diagram on the top of the harddrive, which shows how to do this.

If it still does not work, put your ear to the system and listen to hear if the harddrive is running. If its making noise, thats a good thing.
If it does not make any noise, the drive is probably dead as well.
