Been out of the loop for a while. Planning to upgrade my IDE laptop hard drive. Whats your recommended brand?
In my area, the choices are: Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital and Samsung. I'm limited to 5400 rpm drives. 7200 rpm, not available in the Philippines.
I'm tempted by the WD. Saw a 160 GB selling for less than competitors 120GB. Is WD reliable?

WD is no more or less reliable than anyone else, but their return policy for if/when the drive does fail is second to none. That's why I always buy WD.

They are all pretty good really.
If you can, find the specific model you are interested in and google it. They all make good drives, but every once in a while, some specific models (regardless of manufacturer) are just no good. -

The Samsung HDDs tend to be among the coolest and quietest. Heat may be a consideration unless you are operating in an air-conditioned environment since hotter HDDs can cause hot palm rests. The Tom's Hardware 2.5" HDD charts have data on the maximum and idle power consumption.
