    Hey guys,
Where can I find a 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive for the dell studio xps 16?
    Links would be nice.
    Thank you!

WD3200BEKT is the fastest 7200rpm drive in real life. The 320GB is cheaper than the 250GB on Newegg.

Phil, is the WD3200BEKT compatible with the SXPS 16? I'm pretty sure it is just making sure before I buy it.

    Yes it will work.

As for migrating, you can clone your current drive or you can do a clean install.

Nahh, I'm buying it because the SXPS I'm buying from BB has 500 GB 5400 RPM, and I'm fine with paying $70 to lower memory and improve speed. But I'm not insane enough to buy an SSD

    Ok then,
    Thanks guys!

What brand 5400rpm drive does it have?

If it's a WD5000BEVT you will have a hard time noticing the 'upgrade'.

If it's a Seagate 5400.6 it will be a good upgrade.

Ask in the Dell forum. There will probably be someone who can tell you. You could try here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4981594

Edit: NBJ got a WD5000BEVT in there review unit: http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/datasheet/dell-studio-xps-16-790

I think it's better to wait until you get it.

Ok so since it's also west digital, it wouldn't be a huge difference in speed? Meaning it's not worth the extra 70 bucks?

Not worth it in my opinion.

WD5000BEVT (5400rpm) is an excellent hard drive at the moment.

When WD5000BEKT (7200rpm) becomes available it might be a worth while upgrade. Benchmarks will tell.

All right then, thanks for all your help Phil! I'll be sticking with the 5400 RPM
