The hard drive in my laptop seems to have broken and I'm trying to get a new one but I'm a little confused about the SATA differences in laptop internal hard drives.

    My hard drive that's broken is 120.0 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400.0 rpm - 2.5"

Can I buy just any hard drive that's SATA 2.5"?

Yes SATA is backward compatible. If you buy a SATA II it will run at SATA I speeds. Which is not a problem because HDD's are not saturating the SATA I bandwidth.

    So yes go for it!
