One of my 2 hdd is showing a yellow exclamation (!) mark, S.M.A.R.T listing shows current pending & unreadable sectors as unstable.
something like current:100,always ok worst:100 data:16,0 on both entries and uncorrectable errors are 23. I know the drive has bad sectors but other than that have no idea what this means, chkdsk says the drive is fine and does not need repairing after an overnight scan (8kb in bad sectors) . Will it fail ? so far theres no change in speed and the drive seems to be performing fine. its just 6 months old so I could go in for replacement.

I have never known a drive to all of a sudden just get better, have known a few to get much worst. As young as this is with error's personally I would replace it.

Hmmm 'will it fail'? Yeah. The 'when' is what we don't know...

I would replace this asap. Remove it from the system it's in; wipe the entire drive while you still can (depending how sensitive the data it contained is to you) and replace it, pronto.

With the new/replacement drive in hand - sell it and buy yourself an SSD instead if your budget allows.

Ahh, just saw - a Seagate drive. (could have guessed).

Like TANWare stated; it won't get better, but it most certainly get worse (and if this happened within six months for you; it will get worse, fast).

    Good luck.

Yeah, I don't think selling a drive that you know to be failing is something that should be advocated for...

Personally I would never sell such a drive. If under warranty I would be sure the OEM/Store knew it was to be listed as a defective drive and not placed into circulation.

@Kunal Shrivastava: First salvage all data from the HDD and then wipe it or use it external drive after a wipe or format. Backup as fast as you can.

He's talking about selling the NEW DRIVE unopened for an SSD.

OP didn't talk about SSD, didn't notice it was just months old. @Kunal Shrivastava: Ask Azom to send a new HDD. Have you checked the worst temp/max temps in SMART? Use Crystal Disk Info.

This is what I was referring to:

Unless the original poster edited his post, I saw nothing about him selling a failing HDD.

    Yes I know that.
What I gathered from that post was: "sell the NEW, REPLACEMENT DRIVE" and use a SSD instead.

Perhaps you saw it as "use the new replacement drive and sell the defective one." <--I could not see this as a statement.

Why not ask Azom directly that could save cost. Swap HDD w/ SSD

Thank you Falkentyne; last thing I would recommend (sell a failing storage subsystem drive...), of course.

Vasudev, you need to read the entire post to see my statements in context.

Wipe entire drive; get it replaced and then sell that replacement... is my usual advice for Seagate drives. ;)

What I suggested for OP that Clevo Reseller AZOM can take care of the bad drive when its in warranty and simply ask them a new drive. Of course, you could sell it for SSD.
As for Seagate, yes my friends at IT complains that Seagate HDDs are unreliable and they prefer HGST/WD. For me, it was actually reverse, WD was failing after 3 years while Seagate still runs like a champ.
