All,I have a HP DV6 6024TX (cpu is i7 2630qm) it came with 4GB ram. The 4GB ram is all
on one module so Laptop is running single channel.

    1) how much of a performance hit am I taking having only single channel?

    2) I can upgrade ram with a generic stick of 4gb ram , will this work ok or is the cpu pretty sensitive to non matching so-dimms?

    3)Just buy 2 matching 2gb sodimms(cheapest option) and sell the 4 gb(warranty implications)?

    First, welcome to NBR! :)

You can definitely buy generic memory and mix it with the "stock" RAM that came with your notebook with no ill effects. Would I personally do this? Probably not. I like using matching kits of RAM in my systems.

As far as I know, you will not be violating the terms of your warranty by upgrading/replacing your memory with new modules. As far as buying a new kit of memory, it's what I would do, but you will no doubt get a slew of other people telling you otherwise.
