I bought the HP-Pavilion-15-ab200 2 days ago with the i7 7500u and I've noticed even during idle the fans continue to run at quite high rpm. I couldn't find much on Kaby Lake other than the same 14nm as Skylake and a slighly lower TDP so is there some problem in HP's design for heat dissipation? I have noticed using the HP Cool Sense has reduced the speed of the fans but every so often it seems to be hitting full RPM. I also checked the bios updates and apart from some fixes to flickering screens and HDD crashing there is no updates for anything heat related.

Would it be worth whipping the laptop apart and replacing the OEM thermal paste with some AS5? I also haven't really adjusted anything in the BIOS and I'm not really in the market to adjust the power settings to reduce performance.

Probably, but maybe let the machine idle while on for some time to let Windows finish indexing things and doing other new install maintenance tasks in the background?
