I have purchased 2 1GB sticks of RAM and installed them. My laptop will not boot up. I just get a totally black screen but I do hear fans running. I have read several boards and forums and even found someone with this problem. I checked both sticks as someone suggested, to see if either one was dead. They are ok and the computer boots fine with just one stick in at a time. I really want to max out my RAM to 2GB. How can I make this work? My husband said he read something about changing the BIOS, but this was before we purchased the memory and can't remember where he found that info. Please help!

The only thing I can think of at the top of my head is if you forgot to remove the battery before replacing the modules.

Other than that, I don't really know.

What speed are the sticks, if you went any higher than the original this problem occurs. You can insert 2 pc2700 and it will work fine. You can use one pc3200 by itself or one pc2700 and one pc3200. I had this exact problem 3 years ago, so I do know this issue. I recommend you use two pc2700 sticks of RAM and you will have no more issues. Let me know how it goes. You do not need to change the BIOS for this to work.

Each stick is labeled: 1GB DDR SoDIMM-333 Mhz and the packing label says: 1GB DDR-333 Hewlett-Packard Pavilion zv6000 Memory RAM.

Is there a way to find out if it is pc3200 or pc2700? Tried to call the support number on the sticker but they are closed until tomorrow morning.

I have to say I'm at a loss on this one. I really thought I had it. Did you try each of them one at a time to make sure they're both good. Maybe one of them is bad. Go to HP and look at the driver list and see if there is a new bios update, but I don't think it's the issue.

    Sorry I wasn't more help.

    333Mhz memory = PC2700
    400Mhz memory = PC3200

You should put the older memory in, and look for a bios update on the internet. It is most likely the case that your bios version cannot see 2Gb of memory.
Just update the Bios and everything should work fine.
