Hey guys. It's me again. I was working on an older HP laptop that is about 6 years old. The HD in it has a bunch of problems so I was going to replace it. I bought a 320GB HD for it. When I took the old HD out, the connector from the old HD to the dock was much different than the new HD.

They weren't compatible and I wanted to know if there is anything I can do about this? Is there anyway to get a connector that can mate with the new HD's surface and the old laptops connector? Does that make sense

Thanks for reading and hopefully for help. It's a zx something or other by the way.

No. You need an older style IDE HDD. You bought a new SATA HDD. You need to buy an IDE HDD.

Their are no IDE to SATA adaptors which will fit into your laptop.
You will need to return the drive you purchased because it is a SATA drive.
    Your laptop uses IDE harddrives.
If you are looking for the fastest harddrive for the interface, you should look into the Samsung HM160HC. It is a 160gb 5400rpm drive.
If you are looking for a higher capacity drive the only option larger than 160gb is the Western Digital 2500BEVE.
    It is a 250Gb 5400rpm drive.

Here is my review of the Samsung HM160HC, their are comparison charts between the HM160HC and the WD2500BEVE drive inside:

Please note that many older laptops have a 48bit LBA limitation, so your system may only be able to see harddrives up to 137Gb.
