I recently picked up a HP Pavilion dv9334us - it's a big (17") heavy 'laptop' loaded with nice features, however the display is driving me nuts.

Unless you are sitting right in front of it, and the screen is properly angled to your position, it becomes virtually unreadable. Move off to the side or up or down a bit and the screen becomes way too dark or way too 'ghosty' (too watery to be able to read) until you move right back in front of it again...using it for over an hour becomes a chore.

Is this typical for HP - or just this model? I haven't noticed this problem with my wifes Toshiba 105-xxxx.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

HP use various different models/brands of screens on that laptop. Normal web browsing, I can see my dv9000 from left, right and even when I move the screen down farther away from me. but when i close the screen like Im shutting it down, it becomes unwatchable. for videos, I have to be almost directly viewing it in order to see it clearly though.

Others with different brands either get better or worse viewing angles and brighter or darker screens. Also should note which of the three resolution/brightness screen types is your one as on the HP site you can choose the one you want.

Yeap, most LCD screens have a sweet spot in where its a great view, but anywhere from that, it goes really bad.

IPS LCD screens eliminate viewing angles, but its a shame they are rare to find.
