Hey there. As the title states I am looking for a bigger HDD in my very old Amilo. The current HDD is only 120GB and I want 250GB,320GB or even 500GB if it will work. I've researched left and right and I found that eventhough the 2.5 inch is standard some manufacturers tend to make them thicker due to the number of platters.

Can someone recommend me an HDD for this model that will work 100%? I don't want to order it from the states/whatever just to find out that it will not fit.

    Cheers and regards,

    Wish ...

The standard height for 2.5" hard drives is 9.5mm.
It would be safe to say that you can upgrade to a 500GB, 320GB, or 250GB hard drive from either WD, Seagate, Hitachi, etc, etc. as most are the standard 9.5mm height.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been tied up with things. You were right and I went out and bought a 320GB HDD from WD. Its a Scorpio and I have problems with it :(.

    1. Idle temp is 60 degrees :(.
    2. Clicks and pops all the time. I used the hdparm switch but on reboot or shutdown there are loud clicks :(.
    3. I tried calling WD but those numbers are weird  . I do +44800 xxxx it is not allocated. I do +4400800XXX and it is busy all the time. I've emailed them to see if they offer a solution before I take it back. It parks all the time :(.

L.E: It has 65 degrees :(. Hotter than the processor and I am doing the following:

    1. Outlook
    2. Capture NX+View NX
    3. IE8 tabs on NBR
    4. 3 WE open.

I have to take it back... it will melt my keyboard ...

Anywho, I ran every tool out there, including the WD ones and the drive is fine :(. This AMILO used to be the most quiet laptop I've ever seen. Now it has transformed into an Asus U6 with a Momentus drive that parks non stop :(.

    Any ideas???

I would recommend that you get an exchange/refund for that drive.
