    HDD Broken?

    Stuff has been corrupting and now I can't install any os even using the oem discs

    Can I just take the drive out and put it in my desktop (its sata)

    If so what should I test it with :)

    If this is the prob ill take the laptop back and get a new 1 and replace the drive after...i'd like two but this one is broken i think

    The first test should be to see if the HDD manufacturer has an ISO image of a diagnostic CD. You then burn that to CD, boot from the CD and it will do the tests. The diagnostic output will be good evidence for a warranty claim (you will need to photograph the screen).

    You could also see whether a Linux live CD can read the HDD. The Ubuntu live CD includes memtest86 for testing RAM but I don't know if it includes any HDD utilities.

    The UltimateBootCD, which can be downloaded for free and burned onto a CD, contains a number of hdd diagnostic tools. The original ultimate boot CD is dos-based; however, there is also a windows-based version called the UltimateBootCD for Windows that can also be downloaded and used for free for personal use.

    I used IBM Drive fitness test (works for toshiba drives) also WD's test that works on other drives failed too

    you can get cheap sata to USB devices on ebay. just hook it up to a desktop and see if that changes anything.
