    hey,

it seems like it would be a better deal to buy a dell m1210 and upgrade and the RAM by myself since i'll save around $150. i'm used to doing this kind of work so why not...

i wanted to ask about the available hard drives at 7200 rpm 100gb or 120gb i guess. last time i checked seagate were great in portable hard drives. is this still the case.

next, ram. ddr2 667mhz. i should get an extra 1gb stick so i'll have 2gb total but i see no-brand names all over ebay. some have lifetime replacement which sounds fine. i am wondering how crucial it is to get a name brand. at home i am micron RAM but that costs...

    thanks
    tom

I think 7200rpm is capped at 100GB but you can get up to 160GB 5400rpm HD. Good manufacturers include Western Digital, Segate and Hitachi.

Lifetime warranty is good on RAM, I wouldnt trust RAM bought from ebay - thats just me. I would stick to newegg, its fairly cheap on there anyway. Most people have a favoutite brand but you cant go wrong if you stick to the following big names:Corsair, Crucial, Kingston and OCZ.

Ive been hunting on newegg for you and they have very cheap Corsair Value Select DDR2 SO-DIMM 667MHz 1GB RAM sticks ($80 a piece) and Hitachi Travelstar 100GB 7200rpm HD's ($145).

Woops! Didnt know that! Dont know what shops are available to you but at least you know the brands you should stick to.

I think I gave away my personal prefrences in my last post - Corsair for RAM and Hitachi for hard drives.

thank you very much. after searching for hitachi drives online i saw that the new 100gb 7200rpm portable HD they makes is probebly the best and it's even $10 cheaper than the seagate!
