Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv6408nr labtop, and it has an intel 3495 wireless 802.11b/g card from the factory. I have a TRENDnet 802.11n router, and I want to upgrade the card in my computer so that it runs at an actual 802.11n speed instead of really good 54mbps. I believe, from looking up specs, my computer uses ExpressCard 34/54.
    Here are my questions:

    1) Is it possible to use a PCMCIA card with it, and if I can, is changing the card a "Do-it-yourself" job, or do I have to take it somewhere to be done?

    2) I heard that some computers reject some cards, so is there a list of cards that I can pick or I just buy one and hope for the best?

    3) If it is a Do-it-yourself job, anyone have instructions for doing it, lol?

    4) Do I have to use a Wireless 802.11n USB adapter?

    5) I was just curious also, is the slot on the right side of the computer where the HP remote goes into, is that where a PCMCIA card go too, or do I really have to bust out the trusty screwdriver?

    Thanks,
    Stephen

You can't replace PCMCIA for Expresscards. But the best way for you to upgrade is to replace the 3945 card with a 4945(I think that's the model) or some other internal N card. That way you don't have an antenna sticking out of the side of your laptop and you will get better range.

Hopefully someone with the same laptop can chime in on how to do it, but it shouldn't be any more than removing a access cover from the bottom of the computer and pulling the antennas off of the old card and swapping the cards.

Lol, I just found cheaper ones on Newegg, ok. But, more importantly, how do I change it? I opened up the bottom of the computer last night, and saw where it was, how do I pull the old one out without breaking it and ruining the whole operation?

lol you should be able to figure out by looking at it. now if you've successfully removed it, then you def. should be able to figure out how to put in a new one.
