    hi all
I saw the Clevo series - and due to some economical restraints at the moment my idea was to buy one of these with a good processor but an older graphic card in order to save money (a gtx960 or something).
I would then buy next year an upgrade - and maybe add a larger ssd.

what would be a 17" screen barebone that would host such a card with no problem?
I saw that the italian retailers for the clevo notebooks are already offering the 1060 but on different models where they offer a 960 so i want to be sure to not buy something not upgradable!

    thank you

With the Clevo models, it will depend on the model of the laptop and the model of the GPU.

For example, due to the large differences in GPU architectures (think Maxwell to Pascal architecture) most Clevo laptops with the 980GTX Desktop GPU were not capable of upgrading to the Clevo based 1080GTX card. However, there are some resellers (Eurocom) offering a different make of GPU (MSI) that can be upgraded in certain Clevos (P870DM-1) models.

My suggestion is to contact the reseller and specifically ask if the model you have in mind which you indicate comes with a Maxwell based GPU can be upgraded to the Pascal based GPU. Or , you may want to post the model you have in mind, and ask this question in the "Sager and Clevo" forum.

They changed the format of the MXM-B cards with Pascal, so only a few laptops could upgrade... What's your budget? MXM Clevos were expensive to begin with, maybe you can afford a 1070 right off the bat (around 1700).

    Edit:
    Made corrections

    my budget is around 1000
I saw now that the cheapest option for a Clevo would be around 1500-1600 which is too much for me :(
I was willing to spend a bit more if it was possible to upgrade, but that's too much
    oh well
i will stick with cheaper branded options then
thank you for the info anyway :)

    Actually the P870DM can. ;)

Not Clevo, but the Tornado F5/MS-16L13 whitebook also can (originally sold with 980M):
