GTX 970m for HP Dreamcolor

OK so here is the scoop:

I got ahold of a Clevo 6GB 970m GPU. Slapped it into my dreamcolor Zbook G1.

Managed to get dozens of drivers to install. Could NOT manage to get the 970m to power the screen.

Displayport output worked great. But that kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop.

I even tried to mod the INF from the HP installer SP87443, which is the driver HP publishes for their HP Zbook 17 G3 with the Maxwell Quadro M5000M, with dreamcolor. The driver installs, but the screen still doesn't work. I tried dozens of different sections out of that INF as well.

For now, I have placed the 970m in a 8770w that does not have dreamcolor, and so far, everything is working great.

I've seen a few people that have mentioned they have successfully gotten dreamcolor to work with Maxwell+ GTX GPUs. @TenGauge and @triturbo were two of them....

I pulled the ZBook apart and confirmed the colorboard is the STDP8028AB.

I cannot find any technical limitations of the GTX 970M that would prevent it from driving this screen either. It contains both LVDS and eDP signalling capabilities, according to the datasheet.

Any ideas? I'd hate to have to limit the Zbook to a poorly K5100M, which, while not a *bad* GPU, isn't exactly what I'm looking to use in this thing.

 

Try to install nVidia 388.xx drivers for Win 10 (the OS must be in UEFI mode)

 

Sadly, this did not work. I tried a lot of variations on it too, but no dice.

I think there might be something up with the BIOS of the motherboard. I did mistakenly update it to the latest.

Fortunately, I have another motherboard on order that is coming in from china, which might have an older BIOS on it. I'll try that and see if it works.
