    Hello,

I plan on buying a Dell Precision m6800, the replacing the AMD FirePro with a GTX 780M.

    My questions are:

1). Is it possible at all? (I have the theoretical knowledge, but I have never done it physically before.

2). Will the X-brackets, heatsink, whatever, be compatible?

3). Will the bios need to be modded?

4). Clevo GPUs are considerably cheaper, do they work on dells? Do I need to mod the bios?

5). Is there anything I need to know? Just tell me everything, I've got time to read.

    Cheers from France!

    Thanks!

While it is physically possible (both cards are MXM3.0b), likely you'll need to get a Dell/Alienware branded card to have even a remote chance of success (Dell/Alienware have some issues with Clevo cards). You might have to work around vBIOS and Intel switchable graphics/LCD (especially if you get an IPS display).

I see what you mean there, although they are physically compatible, the bios was not designed to support a gtx 780m. How can you work around this?

Anyhow, thanks for the quick response!

Also, anybody else notice you can't configure the dell precisions anymore? I mean only the mX800s.

Great! Exactly what I wanted to hear!

I might actually be setting back for a m6700, as I can customise it better. And it's got better documentation anyway.

Just one think that been tickling me though, even though the gtx 6xxs and the 7xxs are based on the same architecture, they are different generations, will the 7xxs be supported like the 6xxs?

Anyway Jesus Christ, thanks for the quick responses, it does make a change from other forums!

    Cheers!
