My question is which GPU has better overclocks?

    standard clock
    standard overclock
    overvolt overclock

how do these GPUs compare? Also is there any notable difference in heat or features for gaming?

I know a 680m vs 7970m thread exists but no one has updated anything about overclocks. So that is what I am wondering. I will update my thread when people post all the information so we can have a nice easy comparison.

    680m
    standard clock 5900
    standard overclock ????
    overvolt overclock ????

    7970m
    standard clock ~5800
    standard overclock 6500-7000
    overvolt overclock ~6900-7200

    Added: 7970m Tess off
    standard clock ~6600
    standard overclock 7100-7300
    overvolt overclock ~8K

EDIT: Adding info i posted in another thread

7970M is an extremely good overclocker which doesn`t get that hot.

GTX 680M is still unknown since we are just seeing benchmarks coming in now. If desktop Kepler and GCN will be like mobile Kepler/GCN, then the 7970M should overclock slightly better.

"overvolt overclock" is meaningless if you don't know the voltages. Same for the other overclocks if you don't know the frequencies.

Different cards will be able to overclock different amounts so you should keeps a list of speed/voltage/score instead of just the 3dmark score.

A truly good GPU need not be overclocked...right?

R3d I will include all of that when people post data. I just quickly set that up from memory from my 7970 overclocking thread

    680m
    standard clock 5900
    standard overclock ????
overvolt overclock Cannot Overvolt through software or vbios, have to do hardware mod

refer to this thread for kepler hardware overvolt mod on desktop card...mobile card will have the exact same limitation:

any more info on the overclocks of the 680? Also if you got freq/volt for these too would be nice to add. Both cards seem about the exact same. I know the alienware one if better then the sager. I would put my money on the alienware 7970 is better then the 680 once they get drivers hammered out. Though it is interesting that the 680 has better power management then the 7970. AMD usually does better dont they?

Beside the printed 15% touted by the manufacturer? This is provided the laptop manufacture provides sufficient cooling to allow it. Modified are totally different animals.
In some things, in others they do not. Its always a matter of what important to you: Car A gets the best MPG. While Car B has more cargo room. Car A cost less. Car B has the best warranty?

your analogy made no sense. I thought i remembered AMD usually had a better performance per watt. I could be mistaken but I thought that was how it was in the 5000 and 6000 series

My analogy would make sense if you broaden your perspective. I moved well past minor individual tests to years of overall comparisons. In the end, but manufactures have pros and cons. The difference is only worth mentioning if that minor advantage is important to you. In other words, if price is paramount then advantage AMD. Now pick a category.

added some info i made in another thread. Does anyone have any more info of max clocks and max clocks with overvolt?
