So I just started playing Crysis, and my GPU temp hovers in the 95-100 degree Celsius range while playing...is this bad for a GTX 260m?

    Asus G51VX-RX05
    2.0 GHz OC'ed to 2.15 (P7350)
    4 GB DDR2 RAM

Time to clean the vents good, or get a cooling pad.

I seem to recall that G51s tend to run kind of hot, especially seeing as how your CPU is also overclocked (the CPU and GPU in the G51 are on the same heatsink), so you'll probably need to go with the cooling pad regardless of cleaning.

Your GPU will suffer a shortened lifespan if you go to those temperatures consistently.

Ok, so now I have 2 questions:

    1. I know software exists where you can control the fan's speed. What free software do you guys recommend?

    2. Also, I'm definitely going to get a fan. What fan is really good that you guys recommend? Desired price range is below $60, but if it goes a bit over 60, that's fine.

    Thanks for the help.

But not on the G51. Look at the optimization guide for G51s over in that section. A cooling pad is safe and effective. Other things you can do with varying degrees of voiding your warranty include flashing the video BIOS to undervolt; adding better thermal paste; adding more copper to the coolling systems.

Tunay, I'm using either (don't remember which) V7.15.11.7988 or V7.15.11.7953 . Both are Asus drivers for vista 64 bit for G51VX (bestbuy version)

You want an Zalman nc2000 and try to run it on a surface that is very cool and not enclosed.

Then you are using 179.88 or 179.53. Updating drivers could improve a bit your temps. Not necessarily.

Just bought that Zalman fan. And I tried my friend's Thermaltake Massive23 CS. Neither did a darn thing.

So I'm probably just gonna wait until I build my desktop to play crysis. The other game I really like to play pushes it to 80 degrees Celsius, is this an issue as well?

also u can try undervolting ther CPU using the undervolting guide..

    forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824

Also try the riva tuner fix... seems to drop temps by 10C on my GPU... also download and use 195.62 drivers... works best with these drivers.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456313

try this... combining these 2 fixes and the notebook cooling pad , GPU temps dropped by 10-20C along with CPU temps...your notebook should run cooler too.

Undervolting the CPU could make GPU run even hotter, at least while idle or close to idle, normal usage. As the CPU and GPU are on the same heatpipe, CPU temp would more rarely come to the temp where the fan kicks in and thus cools the GPU as well. I'm saying it's possible as I don't know the regime of the fan.
