I bought an ACER 5742G this christmas, and it came bundled with a Geforce GT420M card and an onboard intel graphics chip. I've been having problems with my Nvidia graphics card since the beginning, but just assumed it was not set up properly. I don't game that much, so I didn't think about it until now when I really need the card to work as it should.

My problem is, is that my PC most often chooses to use the integrated chip, instead of the Geforce one, I guess this is because I mostly play older games, but I can see that they start to lag when their is more objects on screen etc. I have a Geforce monitor on my desktop, so I know when it is working or not, and it most often isn't.

I've been looking at the Nvidia control panel and under manage 3d settings> Global settings I recently opted for the Geforce card to be the preferred card, as when I choose auto select, it never gets chosen, even when I have selected the specific game to use the better card.

I just don't understand what's going on and I'm loosing my patience with this software. It's a shame really, because when the card works it's bloody brilliant.

Any suggestions? I've also posted this over on the Nvidia forums, but they seem quite slow.

The only thing that you can do is to continue updating the drivers, and force the game via nvidia control panel.

Optimus aint that great thing people like to talk about
