    Hi NR,

    The short story:

Playing CS:S for only half an hour when my screen freezes and then tints blue. Eventually the lcd turns off. I do a hard reset.

When my laptop starts back up I have a white screen with vertical rainbow lines that darken as my laptop tries to boot up. It stays like this indefinitely.

I thought I had fried my GPU. Though when I cleaned out the underside there wasn't much dust at all, and I hadn't come close to overheating imo.

Despite all this I have managed to get my laptop into safe mode. At times my boot screen will come up as it normally would, though my screen is distorted by green tetris like shapes. When I'm in safe mode they go away, but the screen still has some minor distortion.

Getting my laptop into safe mode gave me some hope that all was not lost, but I have tried to update my video drivers (they were outdated). The drivers were updated but it hasn't fixed anything. Any restart brings me back to rainbow death screen. My next thought was to back up my files and wipe the disk. But before I did this I wanted to gather any advice or direction from the NR community. Did I fry the GPU?

    Thanks in advance.

If it's not fried, the heatsink is somehow dislodged and the GPU is burning hot. It doesn't sound like a screen problem or driver issue.
