This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Force Touch for PCs

    It looks like something similar to Force Touch could be coming to non-macs: http://www.synaptics.com/en/press-releases/forcepad5.php

    Synaptics has actually had pressure-sensitive touchpads for a while now, which for example HP's Folio 1040 made use of it. The difference now is that haptic feedback can be integrated too. I think this is the huge missing ingredient and really the key to why Apple's Force Touch trackpad is so well received.

    Of course to pull it off OEMs would need to be willing to increase their BOM, not gimp the drivers, and we'd need OS support as well. If history is any indication this isn't likely, but one can still hope that there will one day be a decent trackpad for Windows users.
