    How come most laptop makers only use the tiny firewire port, instead of the proper 6 pin one?

    may be they feel that u wont be charging ur devices through firewire.. or may be its not easy to charge a device from a laptop battery thru firewire.. or may be i dont know that answer..

    somebody help!!

    Mostly space and power requirements. Most manufacturers don't fully power the Firewire port so it doesn't suck battery life.

    yess even if the macbook pro as an example has 6pin (or 9pin the largest one) many users still need to use external PSU, that goes for pro audio interfaces, some hi grade HD-s, etc ..
