I am looking at getting the Acer Aspire AS6930-6560. My problem is that I need a firewire port for video capturing.

Newegg says the slot has 1 x ExpressCard/54 slot. I found this one or perhaps this one, but I have a few questions.

Most Firewire Express cards seem to say 34 (mm?), while the slot says 54. Does this mean it wouldn't fit? The first linked one doesn't even specify 34 or 54.

Also, would adding firewire with an express slot slow it down or otherwise compromise video capturing? I'm not sure how exactly the technology works but I would think plugging something into a slot might slow it down a bit, rather than having it built in and connected directly.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a Firewire Express card - brand or exact one? Thanks for any help!

ExpressCard 34 will work fine in a 54-slot, as it's the same connector on both, ExpressCard 54 is just wider than 34... (54mm wide vs 34mm wide).

ExpressCard will not slow firewire down, firewire is too slow to be too fast for ExpressCard. So no problem there for you.

Thanks. Is there a brand that is more well regarded or are they all basically the same?
