I have the laptop in my sig on order and should be receiving it in a few weeks. I wanted to plan out how my OS/data/games will be loaded.

I plan on putting Win7 on the SSD of course. 500GB mechanical secondary will hold pictures/videos/music/etc.

My question: I have a lot of games on Steam. Is there any issue with loading Steam on the SSD but having the game files on the mechanical secondary? How does this work?

Just trying to figure out the best usage of my system. Any additional tips would be much appreciated.

i believe steam and it's games must be in the same directory, so if you have a large amount of games but with a small SSD, it's probably a good idea to put into the mechanical drive.

I've trying to figure out how to put just a few steam games on the SSD but haven't found any solution to it.

Steam just doesn't like it if the files aren't in the Steam install directory. So you either install Steam and it's games on the mechanical, or put it all on the SSD, when you might run out of space. Which is why I ended up with such a large SSD...dang Steam making buying games too easy...

that is your answer, install on HDD (steam itself won't really benefit from being installed on the SSD, the majority of its time to load has to do with network connectivity much more than loading the executable) then move games you play a lot to the SSD (though you should only put games that load graphics/textures on the fly and/or ones with with long load times to really benefit).
