Some benchmarks say Seagate 7200.3 250GB is the fastest, while other say WD Scorpio Black is the fastest.

I'd probably take the Seagate 7200.3.

If money is not an issue get the 320GB. Hard drives get slower as they get fuller. Make a first <160GB partiton for your OS and a second partition for your data.

Actually the Samsung 80gb is the fastest of them all
Well, we dont have benchies of the other 80gb variants of the latest gen 7200 drives, but we have the samsung benchy, and it is far from exceptional. It completely blows away the competition, cause the heads are only using the outer edge of teh disc, so the transfer rates throughout the entirety of teh drive are above 60mb/sec
    Definitely an awesome drive:

if you'd go for that low you wouldn't need a hdd at all. even while k-tron doesn't like it.. but my mtron does deliver 100mb/sec on the whole 'drive'. so if you can go small (or install two disks) and money is really no issue, ssd's are an option.

but there aint no 250gb ssd around yet. 128 samsung is the biggest so far, but no clue on how to get that one (it's oem only so far afaik).

well, if money where no issue, and 128gb are enough, there is the memoright slc ssd as well.. but it's 2500$.. i think that's even beyond "no issue" :)

If money is no object at all

Speak to Intel and ask them how much a 250GB SSL Solid State drive would cost you as I doubt they have a price list for it yet. Its shock resistant, fast and should set you back a fair bit of cash.

Apart from the I have just fitted a 7200 320GB WD drive with free fall sensor (sensor will only work with BIOS support, My G71V displayed the free fall sensor option when the drive was plugged in). Its reasonably fast and gives me no problems.
