To syncronise a watch with my PC over infrared, a USB-Infrared bridge has been delivered with the watch. I don't succeed in making that USB bridge work on Vista nor on XP on my Compaq NC8430. I have seen in the specs of my portable that the NC8430 doesn't have a built-in infrared port, but i'm not sure whether that should be a blocking factor to make that USB infrared bridge work (what use would such a USB infrared bridge be after all). Is there anything i can do to make that thing work ?

do I understand that you have been supplied with an infra-red device which plugs into a USB port? What happens you plug it in? Does Windows ask for a driver? Were you supplied with a driver disc? Does Device Manager show an unrecognised device?

    Please clarify.

I have been supplied with an Infrared device which plugs into a USB port indeed. When i do plug this device into the USB port, Windows asks to install the device driver. According to the device manufacturer, the drivers should be built into Vista: irenum.sys and stusb2ir.sys. These files are on the OS indeed. But still Windows isn't able to automatically install the drivers for the device. It gives an error "Device driver software not succesfully installed". So the Device Manager shows a device not configured properly
