I have an aging E1705 Notbook and want to replace the hard drive to this one: Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS 320GB 7200 RPM.
Will my XP MCE recognize the whole drive and do I have to add a jumper to force it to 1.5Gb/s ? Thanks :)

You should not need to fiddle with any jumpers on almost all SATA drives. It should run at 1.5Gb/s by default (unless the E1705 controller is SATA II, in which case it should run at 3.0Gb/s by default). Your computer will recognize the drive out of the box, but the Windows XP installation will not recognize it unless you either disable AHCI in your BIOS or load the relevant AHCI drivers at boot.

I plan on either cloning the new drive or restoring from a complete system backup instead of installing XP from scratch. Would I still need to disable AHCI or load drivers?
