Hello i have a question i am 100% unsure if this could work hence why im asking for someone who might know. I recently bought a T7100 engineering sample for my dv6500t off ebay. Now my question is will my old T5250 work in my brothers dv8000t based off of an intel 945pm chipset. I do know you cannot run 800mhz FSB chips on that chipset but my t5250 is only 667mhz which is the same speed as his current t2300. Also his cpu socket is M mine is P but i was starting to think that the socket letter being diffrent is to keep people from putting socket P 800mhz chips into socket M motherboards because most of the chips that are socket P are 800mhz fps. Anyways there both socket 478 pin based. So what are your thoughts if it could work that would be great. Thanks

No the T5250 won't work in your brother's laptop. Keep the T5250 for a while, in case there are any problems caused by the new/used ES, and sell it off later. The i945PM chipset won't support the Santa Rosa CPUs. It is a completely different chipset. Check out Commander Wolf's CPU Compatibility Guide. Although it may seem identical, Socket M is not pin-compatible with the older mobile Socket 479, the older desktop Socket 478 or the newer mobile Socket P. Hope it will clear things and help you choose the right CPU for the right platform.

It was really hard to read your question due to grammar and punctuation, but let me see what I can decipher.

Can a Socket M chip fit into a Socket P? No.

What makes it " santa rosa " other then the fact of it came in my santa rosa laptop from all the specs iv seen it has the correct pin style and FSB to work i dont see why it wouldnt. Also i dont want to sell it because if my laptop ever has to go in for repair i will always have it in my brothers ( just a pain in the *** to get too lol )

First of all, the BIOS on that laptop will not provide support for the T5250, and secondly the chipset is not compatible with that CPU. Both are completely different platforms.
Anyway, if you want to try it out, you are most welcome to do so, and let us know about the upgrade.... :D

(You can contact/PM Bigozone if you want to, he tried the opposite of what you are trying to do, fitting a Socket M CPU into a Socket P)

I was going to install the t7100 i bought for my dv6000 and the question i had to follow up was if my old t5250 would work in my bros laptop. Well i did the swap im running a t7100 ES i also replaced my thermal grease the cpu runs 5*C cooler and the grahics card runs 5-10C cooler idle and maxxed out. HP used this crappy little peice of foil on top of some super hard grease to cool the graphics card. I took off the foil scraped it away put real grease on and its much better now. Off topic question but is the t5200 you put into your acer worth it or should i go for a t5500? ( for the dv8000 )

T5200s are cheap on ebay (used/oem), around $10-20.
T5500 is fine, but if in need of good performance, get the T7200.

I think ill go with a t5200 then i just need a cpu that does 64 bit. Were going to max out my brothers laptop with 4gb of ram but it needs a 64 bit OS which needs a 64bit cpu currently he has a t2300.

945GM/PM will not address the full 4GB ram. (about 3-3.5GB)
