Does 2133MHz RAM run at the full 2133MHz in EON17-SLX by default/straight out of the box?

Does 2133MHz RAM run at the full 2133MHz in EON17-SLX by default/straight out of the box?

As far as I know, straight out of the box all P375SM-A CPU and MOBO only support up to 1600MHz RAM and will underclock all higher RAM speeds to 1600MHz if installed without BIOS mod/XMP profile support. Could be wrong that's why I'm asking for clarification.

Since the RAM used is from HyperX, they have a technology called pnp (plug and play) that according to them will auto overclock the RAM to their specified speeds without needing to go in BIOS, but they then go on to say in small print (at the bottom of the page) that it depends on the CPU and MOBO. Is this just marketing fluff or does this actually change anything?

EON17-SLX is based on CLEVO p375SM-A (assume using i7-4940MX just in case it matters somehow which I don't think it does)

    Ram being 2 sets of Kingston HyperX Impact SODIMM - 16GB Kit* (2x8GB) - DDR3L 2133MHz CL11 SODIMM, total 32GB RAM

    Part Number: HX321LS11IB2K2/16

    Specs: DDR3L, 2133MHz, CL11, 1.35V, Unbuffered, Spec Sheet PDF Timings: 2133MHz, 11-12-13, 1.35V/1.5V; 1866MHz, 10-11-12, 1.35V/1.5V; 1600MHz, 9-9-10, 1.35V/1.5V

According to Intel, the chip will support only 1600MHz, but I believe the chipset supports 1866MHz. Unless EON17-SLX has their own unique BIOS I know as a fact it will not run at 2133MHz without a modded BIOS on stock Clevo or Sager. Best to ask the folks at Origin.

already have, however they usually don't reply to long emails or emails enquiring on highly detailed subjects such as this

also are you saying 1866Mhz RAM will run at 1866Mhz by default?

I don't know if it helps, but on my XMG P505 (a rebranded Clevo P651SE) the stock XMG bios runs my 2133Mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM at 1866Mhz (by default), even though the machine "officially" only supports 1600Mhz. Using the Prema Mod Bios, however, and it will run at the full 2133Mhz. If the Prema Mod Bios doesn't not support your machine, then I think it likely you'll still be able to get 1866Mhz out of your RAM, but I'm not 100% sure

    Thanks for your inquiry.
EON17-SLX supports 1600Mhz RAM only, 2133Mhz RAM will be run at 1600Mhz as well.
The motherboard is not supporting anything higher than 1600Mhz.
    Thanks

Probably a BIOS lock..That's why I'd never buy from these firms... Ask @Prema if his BIOS mod works with your Origin PC or if he can do something :)

They know not one crap they're talking about. I can tell you for a fact (owning one) that it supports 2133MHz with XMP profiling, and even @n=1 got his to 2400MHz.

But you will need to change the system BIOS.

(more reason I can't recommend ExpensiveriginPC)

On my Alienware 18, I bought 1866MHZ Kingston Hyper-X RAM and it runs @ 1866 MHz. out of the box. but anything higher will require some modifications

P'n'P RAM simply means the advertised speed is in the JEDEC table of the RAM as others may use the RAMs XMP profiles.

But the stock BIOS will 'override' the JEDEC and automatically underclock the RAM to 1866Mhz or 1600Mhz depending on the size of the sticks (IRC 4GB to 1866Mhz and 8GB sticks to 1600Mhz).

To clock the RAM manually to 2133Mhz or more. you need to use the Mod BIOS (click my signature).
(My next Mod will have that lock removed and clock all JEDEC RAM according to their advertised speeds)

But not all hardware can take all speeds. Its a combination of CPU, controller, motherboard traces etc that will ultimately decide if it'll run stable or not.In other words > pure luck :)

So @Prema what would you suggest is the best RAM on the market for 2133MHz 2 x 8GB sticks? I was thinking about this set but would you have another suggestion?

my only choices are metabox and originpc if I don't want to pay international shipping and origin pc seems better then metabox in terms of service and asthestics and it only $1000 more

FWIW that's what I've been using and it's been great. Just haven't had any luck running at 2400MHz though.

OriginPC? Unless OriginPC has a repair center in AUS, you can just as well buy from Sager or Mythlogic or even Eurocom and it'll STILL be cheaper than OriginPC and iBuyPower.

last i check international shipping costs thousands of dollars alone so it's not worth it unless it's for something i can't buy locally (under .com.au domain)

Thousands of dollars? What? It should cost maybe $250 USD depending on where you're buying from... not exactly CHEAP but it's nowhere near thousands of dollars and it'll cost most the same from almost everyone.

$1000 is 1/8th of the price of the laptop itself, so not much considering you also get custom rgb back lit trackpad and custom rgb backlit lid logo
