Does 1600x900 look sharp on any 1920x1080 displays?

For all the years I've worked with laptops the rule has been that the display is only sharp at its default (highest) resolution. By any chance, have any laptops conquered that drawback, eg. looking just as sharp at a stepped down 16x9 resolution? I imagine the physics of pixels would be difficult to get around.

With a 1920x1200 on a 15.6 LCD, my aging eyes have spent an inordinate amount of time with adjustments to get a decent font size. And when that works it works well but many apps do not support variable text sizes or zoom levels. So much as it pains me I may have to "settle" for a 1600x900 instead of 1920x1080 for my next display.

    No, same as it was.

Age makes us settle for a lot of things we wouldn't stand for a second when we were younger. :)

Don't let the young ones know we're settling!!! Tell them the 1600x900 display is simply the best choice, overall. ;)
