I am trying to install 512 memory in my Compaq presario v2405us notebook. When I opened up the back of the notebook I found a memory socket with the original 256 stick installed. I understand there are two memory sockets but I don't see another one or are they stacked one on top of the other or do I remove the existing 256 and replace it with the 512?

didn't the notebook come with a manual?

it might be under the keyboard.

hp's site might have online manual as well.

edit: oh, might try posting this question in the hp/compaq forum

HP has nice online documentation, so search on their websites. It will guide you through the process of upgrading your RAM. ;)

Thanks to all for your help. I did download the HP memory installation instructions. Memory installed works fine.
