    Hi guys,

I have a dell e1505 laptop having a ati radeon x1400 graphics card. Do I really need to upgrade it? And what do you guys suggest me to get? I am using the laptop for lots of programs like photoshop, flash, dreamweaver, matlab, mathematica..etc..I barely play games. But i'd like to have a fast laptop without paying a crazy amount of money.

I have the E1505, and its a decent laptop, the gpu power is a little weak, but the X1400 is still much more powerful than any integrated chipset graphics.

You do not need to upgrade the gpu, it is plenty powerful for the tasks which you are using it for.
WIth Powerstrip, it overclocks pretty well.
    Here are some examples:
    stock speeds

    Maximum overclock:

The X1400 manages to get 1070 3d marks in 2006 at stock speeds
    and
it gets 1338 3d marks in 06 at 550Mhz core and 520Mhz memory clock

550Mhz, 520Mhz is the fastest stable clock speed of the card
    I used powerstrip to overclock
Install I8Kfangui, before overclocking, this way you can keep the temperatures down by forcing the fans to full speed.

    I hope this helps

That card should be sufficent. But it is impossible to upgrade an Intergrated GPU anyway. So, its either, buy a new PC, stick w/X1400 or overclock it.

    The e1505 can house 3 video cards, if I remember correctly. x1400, x1300 and 7300. You can....uhhh....downgrade ;)

The X1400 is not an integrated card, it sits on a proprietary dell socket.
The E1505 supports the nvidia 7300 go and the ati X1300 and X1400, the X1400 was more powerful than the nVidia so I went with the X1400.

Here is a picture of the graphics card if you do not believe me that it is on a socket.
